Ninastako Cultural Centre is working with other cultural centres across Canada in a language research project, focusing on language fluency and retention. Our languages need to survive for present and future generations. Our communities have expressed and continue to raise the awareness that our First Nation languages are endangered.

Our language is our life. We need your help to tell us about our language with our people.

Community buy-in recognizing the importance of preservation of our language

A cooperative approach instead of operating in “silos”

A committed language committee to coordinate language instruction initiatives

A group of competent language instructors in schools and in language classes

Ample opportunities for everyone to speak and practise our language

Extensive curriculum development of resources for teaching/practising our language

Funds to support an intensive collaborative community Language Plan including goals miletones timelines and performance measures

The best way to learn and retain any language is to practice it on a daily basis, so when this Language Plan is started, it will require collaboration of departments, administration, education, employers, everyone, working together to promote preservation of our language(s).

Our vision is for everyone to work together so we can preserve our language with our young people.
